Our initial idea, taking inspiration from Michael Pinchbeck’s work “Sit with me for a moment and remember”, was to take a few moments to pull our audience out of the world of consumerism and capitalism whilst on the high-street. To do this, we were going to set up an “island” in the centre of the high-street, complete with turf and deck chairs. We realised, however, that bombarding our audience with facts and figures about their spending habits was perhaps spreading the wrong message. We had taken our brief of “liberation” too literally.
Instead, we settled on the simple idea of using QR codes on t-shirts to spread a more personal message. In doing this, we’re still taking our audience out of their busy lives and schedules for a few moments, but instead of preaching, we will be telling stories. Love letters, poems, video and audio; we want our performance to be relatable and memorable.
